Daily Announcements

Friday, November 14th - B Day

  • The Hastings Middle School Penny War is happening this week and ends today! Students, you have until TODAY at 3:00 p.m. to bring your change to the Welcome Center near the main office to help your grade win trivia at lunch later this month AND to support the animal ark! Results will be announced after the eighth graders get back from Eagle Bluff on Monday November 24th and the winning grade level will get trivia at lunch on the 25th!

  • Mr. Krater recommends the book Redwall, the first in the Redwall Series. Redwall Abbey is home to a community of peace-loving mice and is threatened by Cluny the Scourge, savage bilge rat warlord, and his battle-hardened horde. But the Redwall mice and their loyal woodland friends combine their courage and strength. This 352-page book can be found in our HMS library as well as your local public library.

  • Today is the day for the 7th and 8th grade Beach Dance from 6-8:30 p.m. in the HMS cafeteria. The cost is $6.00 at the door or $5.00 and a food shelf donation. Please remember that to attend you need to be in school today, the day of the dance (medical appointments, funerals, etc. are allowed), and that school rules apply. Once you enter the dance, you cannot leave early without school staff talking to your parent/guardian. You need to make sure you clean up after yourself. No food and drinks on the dance floor - they must stay in the tables section of the cafeteria. Consider bringing one dollar bills to purchase food, drinks, and trinkets available for purchase. See you at the dance!

Remember to live the Raider way and be safe, respectful, and responsible. Have a great day!

Thursday, November 13th - A Day

  • The Hastings Middle School Penny War is happening this week! Students, you have until Friday at 2:45 p.m. to bring your change to the Welcome Center near the main office to help your grade win trivia at lunch later this month AND to support the animal ark!

  • Here is another clue for the book Mr. Krater recommends. The author wrote this book for the children at the Royal Wavertree School for the Blind in Liverpool, where as a truck driver, the author delivered milk. Because of the nature of his first audience, he made his style of writing as descriptive as possible, painting pictures with words so that the schoolchildren could see them in their imaginations.

  • This is a message for all students, especially our 6th, 7th and 8th graders.    When you arrive in the morning, you need to report to your grade level house or the cafeteria.   Students should not be wandering the halls of other grade levels.

  • Remember to live the Raider way and be safe, respectful, and responsible. Have a great day!

  • Mr. Krater’s book recommendation includes a simple tale of talking mice and evil rats, of snakes and stoats and adventure! Included are the spiritual values of love, companionship, kindness, gentleness, respect, humor, bravery and compassion, all set against the drama of the many encounters with the harassment and cruelty of their “evil enemies.”

  • Nurse Erin wants to remind students that in the hallways, it’s Raiders on the Right and you need to walk! This is so people don’t get hurt!

  • A reminder to all students to make sure you stay in your assigned house and stairwell.

  • Attention 8th grade students: you are sitting in advisory seats at lunch through the rest of the week. We had many students not following expectations yesterday which included throwing food both in the cafeteria and outside. Use this as a reset so we can be on our best behavior at Eagle Bluff.

    • Mr. Krater’s book recommendation is written by an author who wrote his very first story (also about animals) as a ten-year-old. It was so well written that his teacher did not believe it was his own writing. This current series includes 20 books. (Mr. Krater’s favorite is the first book.) Each has about 400 pages.. That makes 8,800 pages in the whole series.
