If you're drawn to heartfelt stories about the bond between humans and their dogs, Mrs. Gullicks recommends a must-read, The Trouble with Tuck by Theodore Taylor. It's a touching tale of Helen and her beloved golden Labrador, Friar Tuck, who begins to lose his sight. As Tuck faces the challenges of going blind, Helen's unwavering love and determination lead her to find a bold solution to help him regain his freedom.
Attention WEB Leaders…we have enough help at the 5th and 6th grade dance. You will get an email letting you know if you were one of the first ten people to reply.
Congratulations to the Cross Country team for competing in 2 meets this last week.

Future Teachers Club will have an informational meeting on Monday, September 29th at 2:45 in room 234. This club is currently open to 7th and 8th graders. If you enjoy working with youth, want to explore the profession of teaching or just looking for a great way to get involved at HMS, then the Future Teacher Club is for you! Mrs. Gullicks looks forward to seeing you there! Again that date is Monday, September 29th at 2:45. If you are not able to attend the meeting, please send Mrs. Gullicks a message through schoology. She will set up another time to connect with you.
Reminder for Outdoor Club Anglers: our 2nd trip of the year will take place on MONDAY in Prescott. Students going fishing need to go to Mr. Shemon’s room right after school. If you’re bringing your own gear, drop it off before school to Mr. Shemon.
Chromebook care announcement. There are a lot of chromebooks coming into the media center that are thought to be dead. You need to use the chromebook charger with your chromebook. NOT a phone charger. The Chromebook charger is stronger. Also 20 min is not enough time to charge it. It needs to charge until the light next to the plug turns white!

Writing Club is starting today! Writing Club is for anyone who likes to be creative and write stories, poems, plays, essays, journals, comic books, and many more. Any student grades 5-8 is welcome to join! Come stop by Ms. Schumacher’s room, room 205 in the 8th grade house, after school this Thursday from 2:45-3:30 for information about Writing Club and to hang out with some awesome writers! If you have questions, send Ms. Schumacher a Schoology message or talk to your Language Arts teacher.
Shout out to the HMS Outdoor Clubs for slaying the fish at Lake Rebecca yesterday.
Mrs. Gullicks recommends a book by an author who grew up during the Depression years, and he started writing at the age of 13. His career included a variety of odd jobs, journalism, and film production before he settled into full-time writing, publishing more than 50 fiction and non-fiction books for young adult readers.

HMS Girls Tennis defeated Skyview last night 7-0. Great job!
All HMS Fall sports have practice and team photos today after school. Today’s volleyball match has been canceled.
Another clue for Ms. Gullicks’ book recommendation is that this tale tells how, if you never give up, even when things seem impossible, even when people tell you it cannot be done, that perseverance can often win.

Tuesday, September 23rd - B Day
It’s great to see students dressing up for today’s tourist day dress up day for Homecoming week. Thank you for remembering to not wear hats for any of the dress up days this week. IF you are wearing a hat right now, please put it into your locker immediately.
and don’t forget that tomorrow is sports day!
This morning students who have not finished their FASTtrack reading and aMath testing will be asked to report to the cafeteria after these announcements to finish their tests. Teachers, please check your email for this list. Students who are asked to finish their tests should bring their charged Chromebook and wired headphones with them. Remember to take your time and do your best!

This Friday, September 26th we will have a different schedule and we will be ending the day with a Homecoming pep fest. This schedule can be found in the rotating slides on our TVs around the building. Students, you will learn more about this schedule and pep fest on Wednesday in your advisory classes.
Remember that Home of the Raiders shirts will be sold today, tomorrow and Thursday of this week before school in section C of the cafeteria from 7:35-7:50 for $7.00 each.
For our book recommendation this week, Mrs. Gullick's recommends a book that can be enjoyed by all. This classic is an inspiring story of a special pet (all are special) that goes blind, and the girl who would do anything to make his life better.

Tomorrow is the deadline to bring in your tug of war donations to your advisory class. Winners will be announced on Monday. If you forget your donations at home tomorrow, they WILL NOT be delivered to you or your advisory class so don’t forget tomorrow is the final day for collection!

Outdoor Club Members: If you were unable to attend yesterday’s meeting, please stop by Mr. Shemon’s room for a permission slip. All slips are due next Thursday, May 15.

If you’re ready to play Bingo after school with the student council, meet in the cafeteria. The cost is $2 to play. We will play until 3:30pm.

Attention next year’s WEB leaders. If you didn’t check your email yesterday, please do so today about an important message about tomorrow’s play day.
There are only 2 days left after today to bring in those donations to your advisory class. Remember, the top two classes in each grade earn their way into the tug of war. Who doesn’t want a chance at pulling the staff into a pool of ice cold water????
OurStudent Council is hosting one more after school BINGO this year. Tomorrow after school in the cafeteria from 2:45-3:30 pm. The cost is $2 to play. It is open to all students 5th - 8th grade.
Attention Outdoor Club: Please meet in Mr. Shemon’s room to discuss our upcoming fishing trip and create your own lure. Our meeting will last until 3:30. See you there!
