-NO SCHOOL / MLK Day & Teacher Workshop-

Friday, January 16th - B Day

  • Our Writing Club students wanted to spread a little positivity around the building, so you may notice some encouraging Post-it notes posted in different grade-level houses today. If you see one, take a moment to read it and enjoy the positive message — and please leave it up so others can enjoy it too. Thanks for helping us spread kindness and make HMS an even better place to be!

  • Student Council will be having a contest starting soon that needs cardboard boxes. If you and your family have any cardboard boxes that you can donate to this contest, please drop them off in the Main Office sometime this week and next week.

  • Earlier this week students learned about a t-shirt design challenge! Students, help us create our new Raider Way T-shirt for the Raider Cove. Here are a few reminders:

    • The design must incorporate the school name, school colors and school logo

    • The t-shirt color will be white

    • Sketch your design on a plain piece of copy paper with your name and grade written on the back

    • Turn into the Wellness center by January 23rd.

    • Students will then vote on which shirt they like the most during advisory.

    • The winner will be announced on February 6th.

  • Shout out to the Varsity Raider boys swim and dive team for their win over rival Simley last night. The meet was a nail biter. The score was tied going into the last relay.

  • HMS Outdoor Club kids–your permission slip for next Thursday’s snowshoeing trip is due back to Mr. Shemon by Wednesday!

  • The HMS Cribbage Club is back! Any student that is interested in learning the card game of Cribbage is encouraged to sign up. Your parents must sign you up ONLINE through Community Ed. Cost this year is $28. This covers the cost of snacks and allows you to hang out with Mr. Kreuser, Shemon, and Olson. Cribbage Club won’t start until February, so there is time to sign up. However, it is only open to the first 40 kids that register. Come take on the reigning champion from last year, 7th grader Teddy Peterson. See if you can beat him!

  • Joke of the day: What kind of pillar can't hold up a building? (A caterpillar)

Special Shout Out goes to Mr. McLay.  Recently, Mr. McLay was inducted into the MN Wrestling Hall of Fame. Here are some cool facts you probably didn’t know about Mr. McLay (which he never brags about): he was a 3x state champion at Hastings High School, and was also a NCAA qualifier for the Minnesota Gophers. He also has over 200+ wins as a varsity wrestling coach.

Mr. McLay cares deeply about all students, not only wrestlers! We are lucky to have Mr. McLay here in Hastings. Make sure you congratulate him if you see him the hallway.

  • Remember that we do not have school on Monday or Tuesday. Have a great weekend!
